Looking for solitude at sunrise? Consider this location instead of the summit. We went in May 2017 and we were the only ones there! If you're looking to try a sunrise timelapse, bring a flashlight and put on as many layers of clothing as possible, because the area before dawn is dark and the few glass windows here won't protect you from the wind. Ear muffs, thick socks and gloves are also helpful; can't operate that camera if your hands are frozen! If you do get cold, the overlook is very close to the parking area, so you can quickly warm up in your car and jump right back into this amazing place!
Small and out of the way. The back up bathroom is also here for when the summit visitor center's are closed.
Insane views of the crater. Bring a coat!
