The sunsets are spectacular and when the stars come out it's a wonder to behold. Should not be missed

Plan to arrive between 4:30-5pm to see the crater, when we arrived at 5:30pm for sunset the crater was already in the shadows - which was a shame. We saw sunset over the clouds that was absolutely stunning, everyone almost held their breath as the sun set! On the drive down we spotted thousands of stars and the Milky Way - stunning!

We loved the drive up and the view from atop. Molokini crater was visible in the distance and also the neighboring islands.

Be cautious while driving as there are many turns on the road. The visitor center on top was closed during our visit but the restrooms are open. It was a little windy and the weather changed to a light drizzle before we left. I would go up there again on my next visit!

Another Google user sums it up best "would be a great place without people". Was able to view sunset from the summit. The adjacent observatory really cuts in to the view and makes it tough to get a good un-obscured view but that's a very minimal complaint and for all I know could only be an issue at certain times of year. The hoards of people making their way up to the summit and acting foolish when they realize parking is at a premium can ruin the fun and feel a bit disorganized.

Beautiful and awe inspiring... I know most people know about Sunrise in the "House of the Sun"... you've got to check out sunset and all the stars that follow. Just amazing!!! This is our third trip to Haleakala and each time we experience something new.

Went up for sunrise. Pre-purchased a ticket a couple weeks in advance as they seem to sell out with relative frequency. Unfortunately the weather didn't co-operate and we were unable to see anything at all during sunrise at the summit. Woke up at an ungodly hour and was still stuck behind a convoy of overly nervous drivers; going up the Mountain took close to 2 hours. People ruin the experience of this otherwise beautiful park. I understand you can't control the weather but be aware when scheduling a trip that anything can happen. The park pass is only good for a limited amount of days so plan accordingly and take variables like weather into account if the sunrise is truly something you'd like to experience. Will attempt another sunrise viewing in the future for sure.

Make sure you dress for it!!! I know it seems crazy... you need a jacket and pants! It's cold up there!
